In the tech industry, artificial intelligence is often treated as a playground exclusive to engineering and data science teams. But at True Balance, we believe that the most powerful application of AI doesn’t start with a line of code; it starts with a deep understanding of the problem. And the people who understand our problems best are the ones solving them on the front lines every single day.
That philosophy was the driving force behind the True Balance AI Hackathon 2026, which brought together thirty cross-functional teams for 48 hours of rigorous building. The challenge was simple but ambitious: identify a real operational bottleneck, leverage AI to build a tangible solution, and prove its business value.
We are actively democratizing access to AI tools across the organization so that anyone, whether they sit in HR, Design, Marketing, or Compliance, can become an independent builder. We want our teams to drive growth, automate complex workflows, and elevate the customer experience without needing a computer science degree or a spot in the development queue.

Here is an inside look at the cutting-edge solutions our teams shipped when we empowered them with the tools they needed to execute their own ideas.

What set this hackathon apart was our structural requirement for teams to blend technical and non-technical talent.
Built Together, By Design
An AI model can’t replicate the intuition of a compliance officer navigating a sudden regulatory change, nor can it replace the empathy of a customer experience lead who knows exactly why a user abandons an application. That kind of lived, institutional knowledge is irreplaceable. When you equip those frontline experts with accessible AI tools and pair them with our engineering team, you stop building theoretical prototypes and start shipping real, production-ready products.
Teams competed across six tracks that reflect the daily reality of our operations: Growth, Risk, Compliance, Product, Customer Experience, and Automation. After two days of intense collaboration, here are the innovations that took top honors.
The Hackathon Winners: Reimagining Fintech
- First Place: Frictionless Repeat Borrowing
- The team addressed repeat-borrower friction by building an AI-driven retention engine to ensure a continuous credit lifecycle.
- Runner-Up: Radical Transparency in Lending
- A design-led team tackled compliance and user trust by building “Explain My Loan.” This AI transparency layer sits inside the Android app to instantly translate complex loan terms into plain, accessible language.
- Second Runner-Up: Meeting Customers Where They Are
- The team tackled acquisition drop-off by porting the entire loan application journey directly to WhatsApp. Their conversational AI interface allows users to check eligibility, apply, and track status without ever leaving the chat app.

Special Awards: Pushing the Boundaries of Operations
Beyond our top three, the hackathon surfaced highly targeted solutions designed to optimize how True Balance operates behind the scenes:
- Turning Rejections into Retention (CAIO Award): The team plugged a major acquisition leak with a Rejection Recovery Engine that explains loan denials in vernacular languages and notifies users the exact moment they become eligible again.
- Securing Enterprise AI (Best Work Automation): This team addressed the security risks of enterprise AI by building a zero-trust defense layer that automatically redacts PII from employee prompts before they reach public LLMs.
- Optimizing Velocity (CPIO Award): This team targeted our operational efficiency by building a custom, AI-assisted sprint management tool perfectly tailored to our organizational cadence.

What Comes Next
When employees are given the agency and the tools to fix operational roadblocks themselves, they transition from waiting on a development queue to taking active ownership of the solution. It breaks down departmental silos and proves that great ideas can, and should, come from anywhere in the company.
The hackathon was a real-time showcase of this culture in action. The strongest prototypes from this event are already undergoing evaluation for integration into the live True Balance ecosystem.
When you give your people the right tools and trust them to solve the problems they see every day, the speed of innovation accelerates exponentially. This hackathon was proof of that commitment—and we’re just getting started.
To all the winners and participants: congratulations. You have redefined what it means to be a builder at True Balance.
Stay tuned for more blogs from our winners where they will share their experience!
